Buck
Buck is a Labrador Retriever, and came in to our home when he was 10 months old. He is in the process of being trained for hunt tests, but I couldn’t get over how amazing his temperament was. He is docile, loving, and respectful of boundaries. He enjoys interaction, but doesn’t try to force it. I noticed this more so with my son who struggles with sensory issues.

I started training him for scent work and trick dog for fun, and he was willing to do anything I asked of him. Within a month of having him he passed and titled in Canine Good Citizen, Canine Good Citizen Advanced (Community Canine), Trick Dog Novice, and Trick Dog Intermediate. He will be in his first scent work trial in late March, and will also hopefully be competing in hunt tests come summer. After witnessing his temperament combined with his versatility, I knew he would be the perfect candidate as a therapy dog.

Going into it, I knew I didn’t want to be with just any therapy dog organization. I wanted to be a part of an organization that was willing for me to share the Gospel wherever I went, and for Buck to be the ice breaker that some people need. A lot of people in nursing homes or hospital settings struggle with fear, depression, and uncertainty. My hope and prayer is that Buck can be a tool to reach those who need to hear the Good News about Jesus, and to receive the answer that they aren’t in this alone.
